Aiai, the City of Love ((れん)(あい)()()()()()()()()アイアイ, Ren'ai Toshi Aiai) is the 159th chapter of the Hunter × Hunter manga, written and illustrated by Yoshihiro Togashi.

Synopsis[]

After explaining the situation to Hisoka, Biscuit tells Gon and Killua that he is hiding the truth rather than lying outright, which she can sense after lying for 50 years herself. She says that they should stay with Hisoka to see if he's actually hiding something about Chrollo, confirming with Gon and Killua that he would also be a strong ally. As the group makes their way through a forest, Hisoka is at the back and lasciviously watches Gon and Killua, who feel him staring at them and order him to walk in front. Hisoka confirms with Goreinu that they need ten more people, and Goreinu says that people who aren't interested in collecting cards are the best candidates. He asks Hisoka if he has anyone in mind, but Hisoka says that most people are there to clear the game, so it will difficult to find people like himself.

Maintaining her innocent act, Biscuit still senses that Hisoka is hiding something, and he asks if they used someone's ability to travel to him. Goreinu explains that it was a spell, which Hisoka has heard can be purchased at shops. As Goreinu adds, there are 40 spells, and it's difficult to get specific ones because of the nature of card packs; Killua becomes suspicious and tries to figure out what Hisoka is hiding. Hisoka leads the group to Aiai, the city of love, and they first run into a girl on her hands and knees, looking for her glasses on the ground. Hisoka tells the two boys that they can get to know her by helping her, saying that the city is full of clichés. As he tells Goreinu to watch the corners, Goreinu runs into a young girl eating a piece of bread and saying that she is going to be late before running off. Hisoka says that Goreinu shouldn't have apologized and that if he had gotten into an argument with her, she would have remembered him.

A man approaches Biscuit and says that he needs a model for his hair salon, but Killua reminds the eager Biscuit of their mission. Gon then sees a young girl being attacked by three large men, but before he can intervene, both Killua and Biscuit punch him in the back of the head and wonder why he had to choose the most cliché scenario of them all. Gon remains concerned for the girl, but Killua reminds him that she's just an NPC and that he can help her when they have more time. The group realizes how distracting the city is, and Killua suggests that they go somewhere else, but Hisoka remarks that it's great to alleviate boredom.

Killua gradually realizing Hisoka's plan

Hisoka's mention of being bored causes Killua to think about where they found Hisoka, asking himself what he would do if he entered the game to find someone. He knows that players learn early on how important spell cards are and remembers that Gon and Biscuit met Hisoka while he was taking the Hunter Exam, adding that since they were training around Masadora, Hisoka has most likely been to the city. He adds that most players have to travel to Masadora to buy spell cards and that if Hisoka had really been looking for the Spiders, he would have stayed there to meet them. Hisoka's comment about being bored enters Killua's mind again, and he says that Hisoka either isn't looking for the Spiders or he has possibly found them already. He decides that the latter must be what Hisoka is hiding and wonders what he is waiting for now. He suddenly realizes that there must be an Exorcist on Greed Island, a fact which both Hisoka and the Spiders already know.

As Killua processes his discovery, Gon gets his attention and asks him if anything is wrong. Hisoka tells Biscuit and Goreinu that they can get a rare card if they go out with the princess, and Killua realizes that he can't reveal the truth to Gon since he won't be able to keep the secret, with Gon left wondering if Killua is still mad from their argument earlier. Killua realizes that Hisoka will leave their group if he finds out that they learned the truth, adding that he doesn't want to lose a strong ally and ability to keep an eye on him. Gon gets Killua's attention again and says that Tsezguerra may be the best option since he has a team around him and it will easier to negotiate with him. He suggests at least meeting him and putting him on their list, and as Killua agrees that they should see what he's doing, he realizes that if they can check Hisoka's list, they will be able to tell if he's already met the Spiders.

Hisoka using Texture Surprise to hide the Spiders' names

Gon suddenly asks Hisoka if they can look at his list to see if he has encountered a player named Tsezguerra. As Hisoka asks Gon how to check it, Killua realizes the great timing since Hisoka would have become suspicious if he (Killua) had asked to check his list. Gon tells Hisoka to put a certain card in the last page of his book, and Killua knows that if Hisoka doesn't let them see his list, then his theory will be even more likely. Hisoka summons his book and sees Tsezguerra on his list, allowing both Gon and Killua to look through all the names. Killua is surprised to see that none of the Spiders' names are there, asking himself if he was being too paranoid and considering that Hisoka may really be looking for them. Gon talks with Goreinu, who says that teaming up with Tsezguerra is practical but adds that they should have him share part of the reward if his team clears the game first. Gon gives Hisoka a "Contact" card and tells him to cast it on Tsezguerra, saying that they will do the negotiating. As Gon and Killua talk with Tsezguerra, Hisoka chuckles to himself and hides his right hand behind his back, commenting on how useful Texture Surprise can be.
