Two Enemies (
Synopsis[]
Lippo tells the examinees that they will draw lots to determine the hunter and the hunted. He explains that the box has 24 cards with their badge numbers and that they will draw one each. He tells them that they will draw lots in the order in which they passed the Third Phase, and Hisoka is the first to pull a card out of the box. After the remaining 23 examinees each draw a card, Lippo assures them that the tabulator has recorded the badge numbers and that they can dispose of the card if they wish.
As Lippo reveals that the examinee whose badge number is on their card is their target, Gon slowly flips his card to find the number 44. Lippo then tells them that their objective is to collect the badges of other examinees, explaining that the badge of their specified target is worth three points and that their own badge is worth three points if they are able to keep it. He adds that all other badges are worth one point and that they need at least six points to reach the final phase of the exam. Lippo finishes his explanation and tells the examinees to enjoy their time on Zevil Island.
With the examinees now on board a boat, a female official from the Hunter Association congratulates their passing of the Third Phase and tells them that it will take around two hours to reach the island. She also joyfully reveals that they have all received an unconditional invitation to the next exam if they don't pass the current one, but the examinees are so focused on the current task that they barely react to the news. With many of them wondering who has their badge number, it's stated that most of them had already removed their badges and hidden them, waiting in silence and avoiding eye contact. The official tells them to relax and enjoy the voyage before awkwardly moving to another part of the boat.
As Gon sits alone on the boat, Killua approaches him and sits down beside him, eventually asking what badge number he has. Gon replies that it's a secret and asks Killua the same question. The two sit in awkward silence before putting on smiles and feeling relieved. Killua assures Gon that he didn't draw his number, and Gon says the same to Killua. The two then reveal their targets on the count of three, with Gon showing #44 and Killua #199. Killua can't believe how bad Gon's luck is, and Gon wonders who has the #199 badge. Killua replies that he doesn't know either and that no one bothered to memorize the numbers, adding that most had already hidden their badges when he scanned the crowd.
Killua suddenly notices Gon's expression and tightly gripped hands, wondering if he's scared or excited. Gon replies that it may be both, knowing that he would easily lose in a normal duel against Hisoka but that it's possible to "win" if he only has to steal his badge. However, even given his skill level, he is left unsure about his chances and says that he can only try, again clenching his hands together. Killua then stands up and wishes good luck to both of them before riding away on his skateboard, with Gon giving him a parting thumbs-up.
As the boat reaches Zevil Island, the female official explains that they will disembark in the order in which they completed the Third Phase, with two-minute intervals between each examinee. She adds that they will be left on the island for one week, accumulate the necessary six points, and then return to the landing site. As Hisoka makes his way into the island's forests, both Kurapika and Leorio realize the advantage that he has since he can hide and watch where everyone else goes, especially his target. Agon is the seventh to disembark, Imori the fifteenth, and Killua the twenty-first. Gon then disembarks two minutes after Killua and says that he needs to prioritize finding Hisoka. However, he suddenly senses something behind him, but sees nothing when he turns around, telling himself that he must be imagining things. Hiding behind a nearby tree, Geretta realizes how close it was and praises Gon's perception, telling himself to take it slow.
