Synopsis[]

Chap 45 - Gon and Killua heading to the 50th floor

Gon and Killua heading to the 50th floor

It's stated that Heavens Arena is a tower combat arena where 4,000 fighters on average come every day to test their skills, with the winners rewarded by reaching higher and higher floors. It's added that high-ranked fighters can control an entire floor and that annual attendance from spectators is over one billion, with restaurants and shops also located in the tower. A female official leads a group of fighters (including Gon and Killua) inside an elevator, explaining that the tower is divided into 20 divisions of ten floors each (up to the 200th floor). She adds that a fighter who wins on the 50th floor will move up to the 60th, while one who loses will move down to the 40th.

As Killua tells Gon that a room will be provided once they reach the 100th floor, the two suddenly notice the young boy from earlier also standing in the elevator. After the three reach the 50th floor, the boy suddenly bows and introduces himself as Zushi. The two introduce themselves as well, and Zushi says that he was amazed by both their fights. Although they were unable to watch Zushi's match, the two guess that he is equally skilled. Zushi replies that he is there to improve and asks what school the two belong to, revealing that he studies Shingen-ryu kung fu.

The two are left confused and simply reply that they are independent. Humbled by the self-taught fighters, Zushi bows and says that he is inadequate as his master suddenly arrives and praises his student's manners. After Zushi points out that his shirttail is untucked and introduces Gon and Killua, the man introduces himself as Wing and is surprised to see other kids besides Zushi. Killua tells him that they want to train and also make money since they're broke, with Gon pointing out that Killua has been there before. Wing recognizes that the two are skilled enough to reach the 50th floor and says that the key now is safety first.

An official takes the boys' ticket stubs and gives them each Jenny Symbol 2011152 for winning their first fight. Zushi points out that it's just enough to buy a can of juice, which Killua does as he tells them that they will earn Jenny Symbol 201150,000 if they win on the 50th floor. He then reveals that they will earn Jenny Symbol 20111 million on the 100th floor and more than Jenny Symbol 201110 million past the 150th floor. Gon remembers that Killua reached the 200th floor before and wonders what happened to all the money. Killua replies that he mainly spent it on snacks over the past four years, with Gon asking again about the exact amount. Killua reveals that while he qualified for the 200th floor, he quit before fighting there and made Jenny Symbol 2011200 million on the 190th floor. Gon and Zushi are both stunned that he spent so much on snacks, with Killua telling them that they should be able to fight at least one more match that day.

Chap 45 - The three waiting for their next match

The three boys waiting for their next match

After the three make their way to a locker room filled with other fighters, Killua assures them that they will be able to win and earn their Jenny Symbol 201150,000. Two fighters named Maita and Chibaba are told over the intercom to report to the 55th floor before Killua and Zushi are told to make their way to the 57th floor. Zushi nervously bows and tells Killua that he is honored to fight him. Killua apologizes for having to beat him and tells Gon to meet him in the 60th floor lobby, confidently adding that it shouldn't take long.

With Wing watching among the cheering crowd, the announcer introduces the two fighters and shows the replays from their previous fights. She tells the audience to make their choice with their wager buttons, and Zushi comes out as the clear favorite to win, leaving Killua annoyed. After the announcer explains that there will be three three-minute rounds and that the fight can be won by points or knockout, the referee begins the match. Zushi immediately takes a solid stance, and Killua praises it internally as he calmly walks toward him. Zushi becomes nervous and throws a hard right punch, but Killua easily dodges it and strikes Zushi in the back of the neck, apologizing and saying that he is only using that attack until the 150th floor. The referee declares a clean hit, and the announcer says that Killua now has two points, reminding the audience that a clean hit is worth one point, a critical hit two, and a knockdown one. As she adds that ten points are needed for a TKO, Killua wonders why she is telling them since the fight is over.

However, once the referee checks on Zushi, the boy rises to his feet and leaves Killua surprised. Although Zushi assumes his stance again and throws a flurry of punches, Killua dodges them all and again strikes the back of his neck. As Zushi quickly recovers, Killua realizes that he will have to change his tactics, unsure how Zushi is still conscious after his powerful strikes. Zushi tells himself that while he faked Killua out, it's impossible to equal him. He then decides to resort to something as he assumes a stance that causes Killua to jump back in terror. As the announcer wonders why Killua is retreating, Wing suddenly screams out Zushi's name and causes the spectators around him to run away as they cover their ears. Killua nervously turns to look at Wing, who quickly sits down in frustration. The announcer says that the crowd's cheering seemed to drown her out before she turns their attention back to the match.

Waiting in the 60th floor lobby, Gon suddenly spots Killua and shows him the Jenny Symbol 201160,000 he won. He wonders what took him so long, and Killua replies that Zushi proved to be a challenge, explaining that while he has talent and promise, he's nowhere close to their levels. However, he confesses that while he easily won against Zushi, he was unable to knock him out. He then reveals that Zushi used a new stance that gave him the same bad feeling as when he faces his brother. He tells Gon that he can't figure out the technique if it is one, only knowing that it's dangerous and revealing that Wing called it Ren.

In a flashback, Zushi prostrates on the floor in front of his teacher and deeply apologizes. Wing reminds him that he was told not to use Ren yet, and Zushi asks for forgiveness, adding that Killua was just too strong. Wing kneels down and tells him that while it's fine to want to win, he can't lose sight of his goal of making it to the top floor. He stresses that impatience will weaken his potential and tells Zushi to get used to losing since it will happen many times. Back in the present, Killua lingers on Wing's words and says that it's time to change their plans, telling Gon that they are going to the top of the tower. Gon confidently agrees aloud while saying to himself that it was his plan from the start.
