Synopsis[]

Chap 46 - Gon and Killua continuing their winning streak

Gon and Killua continuing their winning streak

As Gon and Killua are both shown winning another fight, it's announced that in the three days since entering Heavens Arena, they have each won six matches in a row without being touched. The two then reach the 100th floor and receive their own rooms. Gon is happy that they no longer have to worry about money, but Killua warns him that it's only true as long as they keep winning, which is difficult to do since many fighters will now do anything to avoid losing.

Although Killua warns Gon about certain fighters who deliberately stall, the two continue to win with one-hit victories easily. They receive even more prize money in their accounts, and Gon remembers that they were completely broke just a week earlier. Killua is annoyed that it took him two months to reach the 150th floor during his first time there, but Gon reminds him that he was only six years old. Gon then changes the subject and says that he saw one of Zushi's matches, with Killua guessing that he's still on the 50th floor. Gon thinks back to the mention of Ren and wonders why it terrified Killua so much. Killua thinks back to Zushi's stance and considers that they may encounter others who use it, but before he can say anything else, Gon points out that he can just ask Zushi about it.

Chap 46 - Killua asking Wing to teach them Nen

Killua asking Wing to teach them Nen

The two make their way to the 50th floor to question Zushi, who immediately explains that Ren is one of the Four Exercises and that these are fundamental to every martial art. He states that one learns Ten, knows Zetsu, through Ren, to attain Hatsu, all of which are needed to train for Nen. With Gon and Killua both left confused, Wing suddenly appears and tells Zushi that he isn't qualified to teach. He then tells Gon and Killua that unfocused learning can lead to even more ignorance, but Killua says that he really wants to learn it, confident that it's the secret behind his brother's powers. Wing asks if his brother knows Nen, and after Killua guesses that he does, he asks Wing to teach them and promises not to ask around anymore if he agrees to do so.

After making their way to Wing's hotel room, Wing reveals that Nen of the Flame inflames the user's soul and is expressed by their strength of will. He adds that the Four Exercises harness said strength, explaining that Ten involves focusing one's mind and deciding on a goal, Zetsu putting it into words, Ren intensifying one's will, and Hatsu putting it into action. He tells Killua that he was intimidated by Zushi's Ren because it was his will to win. He then agrees to demonstrate the process and happily tells Killua that he is going to kill him, asking if that's okay. Taken aback at first, Killua says that it's fine even though he won't be able to do so. Wing first uses Ten and assumes a stance, then using Zetsu and explaining that it can be said aloud or to one's self.

After Wing tells Killua that he is going to kill him, his expression suddenly changes as he glares menacingly at Killua, who becomes frozen with fear. While Gon also becomes nervous, Killua leaps back and stays in the corner of the room near the ceiling. Wing explains that he used Ren, which can function as Hatsu with enough strength and focus. He adds that it's similar to bluffing, using the example of a battle cry used to put fear into an enemy. However, he stresses that Ren needs relentless clarity for it to remain effective and that this requires a cultivated spirit. As he calmly sits down, he tells the two that they should first master Ten so that they can resist intimidation. After Killua finally jumps down, Gon thanks Wing before the two boys leave the hotel. Wing watches them from the window and tells Zushi to begin his exercises, reminding him to always start with Ten as he uses a different form of the word than the one he mentioned to Gon and Killua.

Walking back to Heavens Arena, Killua tells Gon that Wing lied in his explanation, guessing that some of what he said was true and that his power is real. However, he says that it doesn't explain Zushi's resilience and reveals that he had to try harder during their match since he wouldn't stay down. In a flashback, an annoyed Killua punches Zushi hard in the midsection and sends him flying out of the ring. Killua realizes that he overdid it and apologizes internally, but Zushi somehow rises to his feet and leaves Killua stunned. However, the referee declares a critical hit and knockdown, which results in a TKO to end the match. Back in the present, Killua tells Gon that it's impossible to resist physical harm with just will, knowing that it has to involve something else.

Chap 46 - Wing reminding Zushi that Nen can be dangerous

Wing reminding Zushi that Nen can be dangerous

Back in Wing's hotel room, Wing reads a book and asks Zushi if something is wrong, noting that his Ten seems agitated. Zushi wonders why he misled Gon and Killua, listing the real Four Exercises and adding that they don't mean what he said. He asks his master if he decided to fool them because they're not his students, but Wing says that he told them the truth because Nen is an important discipline in training the mind for Nen (again using a different word). However, he confirms to Zushi that he only teaches Nen to his pupils and that others who ask receive the lesson suitable for everyone since it can be easily misused. He then rips out a page from the book and uses energy to straighten it out, throwing it toward a nearby can of juice and cutting through it, with the juice spilling out and the piece of paper sticking in the wall before losing its rigidity. Wing explains that by using Nen, it's possible to turn a piece of paper into a blade and that one's body can resist damage as if it were covered in steel armor. He adds that anyone can learn Nen with enough effort and application, stressing that teachers must carefully consider who will learn it. While Zushi understands his explanation, he wonders why he had to tear a page from his book and spill his juice, causing Wing to quickly apologize. Back at Heavens Arena, it's announced that Gon and Killua have won their first matches on the 190th floor.
