The Invisible Wall (
Synopsis[]
Inside an elevator, Gon asks Killua what's on the 200th floor, but he replies that he has never actually been there. On the 50th floor, Wing is surprised by how quickly the two have progressed, and Zushi adds that they are incredible fighters. Wing then says that he may need to rethink things. Back on the 200th floor, Gon and Killua appear nervous as they look down a long hallway. Gon tells himself that even though it's just a normal hallway, he suddenly feels like he's in a jungle full of monsters.
Killua takes a step forward and says that they can't stop now, but as the two begin to walk down the hallway, they suddenly feel a sinister presence, with Gon anxiously telling himself that he doesn't want to go on. Killua points out that it's intense bloodlust directed right at them, yelling out for the person ahead to show themselves. A female clerk suddenly appears and calls the two by name, explaining that registration is to her right and that they must complete it by the end of the day since their eligibility expires at midnight. She adds that there are 173 people currently waiting on the floor and that all weapon restrictions are lifted. Gon wonders if she's responsible for the bloodlust, but Killua replies that he can't be sure.
As the woman explains that there will no longer be any prize money and that they are fighting for honor alone, Killua points out another person's hand suddenly appearing beside her. Hisoka finally reveals himself and, after the two wonder why he's there, explains that Heavens Arena is the perfect place for someone addicted to combat, in turn asking the two what they are doing there. He says that he already knows why and reveals that he has been waiting for them. He explains that he was able to find out when they would arrive because they used the Internet to purchase their airship tickets. He adds that he waited around the airport and then followed them, having already guessed that they would make their way to Heavens Arena.
Hisoka then warns the two that they aren't ready for the 200th floor, shooing both of them away as they again feel the pressure from before. With the female official left confused, Hisoka sits down and tells them to come back later since it's not a good time, but as Killua angrily attempts to argue back, Hisoka raises his hand and stresses that they are literally unable to advance. The two again feel something that stops them in their tracks and makes them feel incredibly nervous. Wing then appears behind them and confirms that they can't overcome Hisoka's Nen. He adds that they are stuck and don't know why, warning that if they try to fight it, the effort alone will possibly kill them. Killua angrily asks if what Hisoka is using is Nen, wondering how he can stop them just by thinking he will. Wing admits that he wasn't completely honest earlier and asks the two to let him fix his mistake.
As the clock reaches 8:20, Gon asks the official what will happen if they still haven't registered by midnight, and she explains that he will have to start over on the first floor. She then reveals that since Killua was there previously and didn't register, he will be deemed to lack commitment and not allowed to fight again if he doesn't register in time. Killua then turns to Wing and asks him if they can make it back by midnight, with Wing replying that it depends on them.
The three head back to Wing's hotel room by 8:30, and Wing showcases a vase pierced with flowers as water flows out of it. He tells them that they have just witnessed Nen, explaining that it's the ability to control the life energy (aura) that suffuses their bodies. He adds that while everyone emanates a little aura, it leaks away from most unnoticed and uncontrolled. He explains that the technique Ten allows one to contain aura within the body, which strengthens it and maintains its youthful vitality. He then explains that Zetsu stops the flow of aura like a valve and allows one to hide their presence while also reducing fatigue. Next, he tells the two that Ren allows one to produce more aura, suddenly using the technique as both Gon and Killua feel the change. Gon likens it to a kind of pressure, and Killua says that it isn't ominous or sinister. As Wing mentions that it's because it has no ill-intent, he internally praises their aura sensitivity and says that while it undoubtedly involves the environment in which they grew up, both of them have amazing innate gifts.
Wing continues by saying that aura is an irreducible part of their existence and that it's most effective against other humans, warning them that a defenseless person can be killed by an attack involving malicious aura. As the two continue to listen in silence, Wing explains that the only way to stay protected against such an attack is by using a Ten defense to block the opponent's strike. To show what would happen otherwise, Wing faces one of the room’s walls and puts his hand against it, suddenly causing an enormous amount of damage and reiterating that the body of a defenseless person would be shattered. Back on the 200th floor, Hisoka uses aura around his playing cards as he throws them into a nearby wall, saying that it's much too soon.
