Synopsis[]

Chap 48 - Wing preparing to awaken Gon and Killua's Nen

Wing preparing to awaken Gon and Killua's Nen

As Wing stands in front of the damaged wall, he tells Gon and Killua that it also involved Nen and that the power exists within everyone. However, he explains that very few are aware of it and actually utilize it, with these individuals considered to be geniuses, psychics, or superhuman. Wing then reveals two ways to awaken someone's Nen: slowly and carefully or using force. He explains that he used the former with Zushi, who was determined and quick to learn, having mastered Ten in only six months. Killua immediately speaks up and reminds him that they need to master it by midnight in order to make it through Hisoka's Nen barrier. Wing says that using force is their only option, and Killua wonders if it will be fast enough. Wing replies that it depends on how quickly the two can learn to contain their aura.

Wing tells Gon and Killua that he will first use Hatsu to transmit his aura to them, explaining that it's the same technique he used to crack the wall. The three stand in silence for a second, and Wing assures them that he has no wish to harm them and will go easy. However, he warns them that the method is drastic and likens it to jumpstarting a battery. He continues by saying that their power will be awakened and they will be able to use Ten, explaining that he is sending aura through their bodies in order to force open the nodes that are preventing the free flow of aura. He stresses that they would normally use meditation to sense the aura they have and then carefully open the nodes themselves, a process which took the gifted Zushi three months. However, he hopes that Gon and Killua will be able to do it in a week, or possibly days, if he has evaluated them correctly. He describes it as a pity that they have to take drastic measures, and Killua wonders why it's a problem, saying that he thought faster was always better.

Chap 48 - Wing revealing what happens on the 200th floor

Wing revealing what happens on the 200th floor

Wing replies that it's still a cheat and emphasizes that he could kill them if he were inexperienced or had any ill-intent against them. Gon makes sure that they are safe with him, and as Wing sighs in reply, Killua wonders why he decided to help them all of a sudden. Wing explains that while they are both talented, they lack the training necessary to enter the 200th floor since everyone there uses Nen. He then reveals that the fighters will initiate anyone who doesn't know Nen by attacking them once they arrive, which involves less finesse and more violence. He adds that the fighters don't care whether the initiates live or die, with those who do survive welcomed to fight as the chosen few. He tells Gon and Killua that they will see the damage the fighters suffered and why he didn't want them to advance without knowing Nen.

With aura swelling around him, Wing holds out his hand and assures the two that they will awaken since they have the talent and potential. Remembering Killua's words about making it back before midnight, Wing is greatly impressed by their strength of will, telling them both to remove their jackets and turn around. He then puts his hands near each of their backs, causing aura to flow around them as well. Gon is taken aback by the warm feeling and says to himself that Wing seems to be pushing against them without even touching them. Killua describes it as an invisible water balloon against his back and likens it to Illumi's Nen, adding that his brother's was much worse.

Chap 48 - Wing opening Gon and Killua's aura nodes

Wing opening Gon and Killua's aura nodes

Wing then warns them in advance before opening their nodes simultaneously. Both are left stunned at first as aura flows all around their bodies. Wing explains that it's their own aura and that their nodes are completely open, including those in their eyes which allows them to see it. Still amazed by the experience, Gon compares it to steam pouring out of a kettle and Killua worries that too much is escaping from their bodies. Wing reveals that once they lose what they have left, they will be barely able to stand. Killua panics and says that they can't do anything about it, but Wing quickly gets their attention and tells them to imagine containing their aura, ordering them to close their eyes and become relaxed. He then tells them to consider their aura as the blood moving through their veins, sensing the flow throughout their entire body as it gradually slows, and then moves calmly around their core.

The two immediately achieve the feat as the aura surrounds their bodies, and Wing is astounded that they not only took the best positions for Ten but mastered the flow with only a few directions, describing it as amazing and terrifying. He then tells them to open their eyes and asks how they feel. Gon says that it feels like he's in a lukewarm, viscous fluid, and Killua agrees, describing it as a weightless suit. Wing tells them to remember those feelings and that they will be able to perform Ten in their sleep once they become accustomed to it. As Wing's aura suddenly surrounds his body, he tells them to stand ready and warns that he will emit aura with malice, assuring them that his stance alone would have caused them to flee the room before. Killua is left convinced by Wing's assurance, realizing how underprepared they were for the 200th floor. The two nervously wait, and after Wing tells them to endure the attack and that they will then be ready to move through Hisoka's barrier, he sends out the malicious aura.

Chap 48 - Gon and Killua using Ten to withstand Hisoka's aura

Gon and Killua using Ten to withstand Hisoka's aura

Soon afterward, Gon and Killua return to the 200th floor and use Ten when they see Hisoka still waiting for them. As the two moves toward him, Hisoka activates his Ren, but they easily walk through it and stand confidently in front of him. Still sitting on the floor, Hisoka welcomes them back and says that they will be able to skip the initiation process. He then guesses that Gon came to Heavens Arena to train so that he could fight him, and Gon replies that he didn't expect him to be there as well, glad that it saves him the trouble. Hisoka chuckles in reply and tells him not to get overconfident now that he knows Ten, pointing out that Nen is multifaceted as he uses his aura to form a spade and then a skull between his fingertips. Rising to his feet, he assures Gon that he still has no chance against him in his current state, promising to reconsider if he wins at least one battle on the floor. As Hisoka turns and walks down a dark hallway, three disabled fighters suddenly approach Gon and Killua, quickly recognizing that they are new to the floor.
