Cause of Defeat ((はい)(いん)()()()()()()()(), Haiin) is the 54th chapter of the Hunter × Hunter manga, written and illustrated by Yoshihiro Togashi.

Synopsis[]

As Hisoka chews off a piece of his severed arm and guesses that he feels more prepared for the challenge, the crowd is left disturbed by Hisoka's action. With Kastro standing ready to fight, Hisoka suddenly reveals a handkerchief and covers his severed arm with it, confidently saying that he will foresee the future. Once he removes the cloth, the arm disappears and several playing cards fly into the air before falling to the ground. Hisoka tells Kastro to choose a number from the cards, add four to that number, double the result, subtract six, divide by two, and subtract the original number.

With the crowd left confused by the instructions, Hisoka explains that he already knew Kastro's answer, suddenly putting his hand deep into his open wound and pulling out the ace of spades. The announcer is petrified and points out that it doesn't gain him any points in the match, with Killua left wondering how he can be so relaxed. Hisoka tosses the card over to him, but Kastro simply knocks it aside and vows to sever Hisoka's other arm. As one of the Kastros suddenly lunges forward, Hisoka again holds out his arm and tells him that it's his to take. Kastro hesitates for a moment before quickly using his Tiger Bite Fist to remove Hisoka's other forearm, causing the announcer to wonder what Hisoka is thinking.

Kastro is then stunned when his double suddenly vanishes. Hisoka confirms that Kastro used his double to attack and adds that he was planning to counterattack his real self with his right arm, suddenly revealing that it's reattached. With the announcer and spectators left stunned, Hisoka chuckles and says that it involves magic as well. Kastro assures himself that Hisoka has to be using Nen, wondering what kind of ability he has. As Hisoka begins to slowly walk forward, Kastro moves to a defensive stance, causing Hisoka to chuckle and ask if he's scared. Hisoka explains that he now knows how to respond after learning Kastro's trick, adding that he only kept Kastro alive because he had considerable talent.

Hisoka predicting Kastro's demise

After Hisoka predicts that he will dance himself to death, Kastro angrily tells him to shut up before leaping forward along with his double. However, Hisoka easily spots the real Kastro and leaves him dumbfounded. Calmly evading the double's barrage of strikes, Hisoka explains that his double always stays clean because it's created from the image in his mind, which keeps him from recreating the stains that occur during combat. Hisoka continues to evade the double and uses aura around his eyes as he looks at the real Kastro, who suddenly charges forward and prepares to use his Tiger Bite Fist.

Chap 54 - Kastro dies

Kastro killed by Hisoka's cards

However, Hisoka's severed left arm suddenly flies toward Kastro and strikes him in the face, leaving him stunned. Hisoka tells him not to try recovering quickly since the punch hit him directly on the jaw, adding that he won't be able to avoid these either. Kastro suddenly sees several playing cards flying toward him and wonders how Hisoka is doing it, telling himself that he needs to produce his double to block the cards. However, as Kastro is unable to do so, Hisoka explains that creating a Nen double requires considerable focus and that he can only achieve it in his normal state. Two cards pierce each of Kastro's arms before several more fly into his chest and legs. Hisoka explains that it's nearly impossible to use any other abilities after creating and moving something as complex as a human Nen double. Confidently walking away from Kastro's falling corpse, Hisoka calls it memory overload and tells him that the reason for his defeat was wasting his memory capacity.
