Next (これから, Kore Kara) is the 63rd chapter of the Hunter × Hunter manga, written and illustrated by Yoshihiro Togashi.

Synopsis[]

As the announcer excitedly describes Hisoka's punch and notes that Gon has been knocked down, Hisoka stands over him with his Bungee Gum still attached to his cheek. Gon is left on his hands and knees still reeling from the strike and thinking about Hisoka's ability. After Hisoka tells Gon to stand up, the referee declares a critical hit and knockdown, announcing that the score is now 6-2 in favor of Hisoka. The announcer wonders if Hisoka will remain undefeated, and the spectators desperately tell Gon to stand up, with some shouting that the referee is biased.

Chap 63 - Hisoka quizzing Gon

Hisoka quizzing Gon

The referee asks Gon if he can continue, and Gon struggles to his feet as he wobbles in place. Hisoka then gives Gon a quiz and offers him a free punch if he answers correctly, asking when he attached Bungee Gum to his cheek. The three options Hisoka gives are when he struck him with his elbow, when he landed the clean hit, and when he landed the critical hit. Gon thinks about Hisoka's attacks and chooses the third option, when Hisoka hit him with both his hands.

Hisoka reveals that it was actually a fourth option, explaining that he attached it when he analyzed Gon's personality. Initially upset that Hisoka was unfair with the quiz, Gon then becomes upset with himself for having not used Gyo. However, Hisoka assures Gon that while he would have seen his aura coming if he had used Gyo for the fourth option, he would have been unable to do anything for the first three since Bungee Gum can also be attached with physical attacks. Gon realizes that it's pointless to see Hisoka's hidden aura if he can't even avoid his strikes.

Chap 63 - Gon charging toward Hisoka

Gon charging toward Hisoka

Anxiously watching among the crowd, Killua worries that Hisoka's ability is more dangerous than he thought and that Gon will need to avoid Hisoka touching him at all. Wing also realizes that even blocking won't be effective since Bungee Gum would still stick to the limb used to block. Hisoka tells him that they have talked enough and prepares to fight, but Gon dashes toward him first and tells himself that his only option is to move forward if he can't escape. Hisoka becomes extremely excited at Gon's passion and initiative, with a look of ecstasy appearing on his face as he wishes that he could defeat him right then.

Although frightened by the expression, Gon continues to move forward and punches Hisoka in the face. As Gon unleashes a flurry of punches on him, Hisoka reminds himself that he needs to stay patient and wait until his prize has reached its peak, at which point he can tear down the tower of cards. Hisoka then chuckles and uses Bungee Gum' to pull Gon's face into his left fist. With Gon left dazed, Hisoka pulls Gon toward him again and follows it up with a strong right punch to slam him into the floor. However, Gon manages to block the second strike and quickly recovers, confident that he's getting used to being pulled around. Admitting that he's scared, he tells himself not to let the fear take over since it will keep him from fighting anyone.

Chap 63 - Hisoka winning the match by tricking Gon

Hisoka winning the match by tricking Gon

The referee suddenly raises his hand and declares a critical hit for both fighters, with Hisoka also awarded a knockdown to bring the score to 9-4. Gon quickly points out that he stood up right away and even blocked the punch, but the referee simply shakes his head in reply. The crowd begins to angrily voice their disagreement as they throw objects toward the platform, wondering what the referee is thinking and calling him blind. The announcer agrees that the referee seems biased against Gon, who realizes that Hisoka only needs one more point to win the match. Hisoka then chuckles and tells Gon to look to the right (pointing toward Gon's right). As Gon looks in that direction, a piece of rubble comes flying from the opposite direction and strikes Gon in the head. Hisoka quickly apologizes and says that he meant his own right.

With Gon knocked down, Hisoka explains that he attached his aura onto the rock while Gon was complaining to the judge, and then simply activated Bungee Gum. The referee declares a clean hit and knockdown, awarding Hisoka two points and announcing that he has won by TKO. Gon is left in disbelief that the match is over, and Hisoka stresses that while he fought well, he still lacks experience. He adds that they could have a good match if they fight ten more times in Heavens Arena. However, he assures Gon that it's their last fight in the tower and that the next time they face each other, it will be a fight to the death with no rules or points.

Chap 63 - Gon and Killua leaving Heavens Arena

Gon and Killua leaving Heavens Arena

As Hisoka leaves the arena, although Gon realizes how much stronger he is, he tells himself that he can reach him eventually. He confidently states that he will learn more about Nen and develop an ability to rival Hisoka's, clenching his fist in determination. The announcer then states that with Hisoka's tenth win, he is now able to challenge a Floor Master. She also wishes Gon luck in his future fights and says that he fought bravely, ending the coverage from the 200th floor. The referee is interviewed after the match and says that while he felt his judging was fair, he thought it was better to end the match quickly, even if he had to lower the criteria for scoring points. One spectator explains to another that technical judges score points fast to ensure that dangerous matches end sooner. Killua then tells Gon that it's time for them to leave since they met all their goals, suggesting that they head to Gon's home next and adding that he wants to meet Mito. As Gon thinks of her, his great-grandmother, and Kon, he realizes that it's been seven months since he left Whale Island. The two put on their backpacks and look up at the enormous tower, saying goodbye to Heavens Arena.
