Hisoka × Kurapika × Spider's Whisper (ヒソカ×クラピカ×蜘蛛の囁き, Hisoka × Kurapika × Kumo no Sasayaki) is the 27th episode of the original Hunter × Hunter anime. It first aired on May 13th, 2000.
Overview[]
Chairman Netero explains the rules of the Tournament. The match between Hisoka and Kurapika begins and for the most part, Hisoka has the upper hand up until Kurapika's eyes turn scarlet that he finally lands a blow to Hisoka. After the turn of events, Hisoka walks closely toward Kurapika and whispers something to him, upon hearing Hisoka, Kurapika's eyes turn Scarlet again then Hisoka forfeits the match. Kurapika becomes the first examinee of the current exam to pass. Gon versus Hanzo is about to start.
Synopsis[]
Netero explaining the rules of the tournament
All of the examinees believe that the chart implies that one of them will only be the winner, then Netero explains that the examinees only need one win to pass the test. Therefore, the loser will move up and each of them has two tries to win a match noting that only one examinee will fail the tournament and the rest will become a Hunter. After Beans announce the matches, Leorio complains that the matches aren't fair then Netero proceeds to explain that the results were determined from their grades from the previous phases of the whole Hunter Exam. Then Netero gave a little bit of information on how they grade the examinees which fall into three parts, physical ability, mental accuracy, and overall impression then further details the three main factors. Killua wonders why Gon is ranked higher than him. Netero then explains the rules of the matches, anyone can use any weapons they like and the winner will have to make their opponent surrender, killing the opponent will be automatically disqualified leaving the rest of the group passing the Hunter Exam. Netero then congratulates the examinee on making this far and wishes them luck.
Kurapika versus Hisoka
As the match between Kurapika and Hisoka about to start, Kurapika wanted to win for the sake of his fallen clan. Drawing their weapons and after a brief conversation, Hisoka throws a card towards Kurapika, Repelling and dodging Hisoka's card Kurapika attacks his opponent but Hisoka dodges with ease. As the audience made their assumption on the match, Hisoka begins to intimidate Kurapika by talking to him and Kurapika notices the crack in his sword. Kurapika starts to back away as Hisoka walks towards him, then breaks Kurapika's sword completely. With only one sword in hand, Leorio tells Kurapika to forfeit the match and take his chances on the next round. Ignoring Leorio's words Kurapika having his pride, then charges and slices Hisoka, however, it was one of Hisoka's tricks, Kurapika falls to the ground after Hisoka lands a blow. Refusing to give up, Kurapika tries another attack, but fails yet again, Hisoka landed a much stronger attack and sends Kurapika flying.

Leorio worried about his friend tries to convince Kurapika to forfeit the match, Killua then tells Leorio that Kurapika won't listen to anything they say as he's determined to win. Back on his feet Kurapika proceeds to attack his opponent, but Hisoka still has the upper hand as he just dodges every attack of Kurapika. Hisoka's bloodlust starts to boil, Kurapika's eyes turn Scarlet as he charges at Hisoka, anticipating Hisoka's attack Kurapika throws back his card to his opponent then lands a blow on him, Hisoka drops down on his knees. Hisoka's demeanor changes while licking the tip of his card that covers in his blood he walks towards Kurapika. As he gets close to Kurapika, Hisoka whispers something on Kurapika turning his eyes scarlet, Hisoka then forfeits the match leading to Kurapika winning the match and becomes the first examinee to become a Hunter.

Then the referee announces that the next match will be held in the next thirty minutes. Outside, Kurapika tells Leorio that Hisoka told him about the Phantom Troupe. Kurapika wonders what connection he has with the Phantom Troupe. The match between Gon and Hanzo is about to begin.
