Heaven × Fight × Training (天空×ファイト×武者修行, Tenkū × Faito × Mushashugyou) is the 37th episode of the original Hunter × Hunter anime. It first aired on August 19th, 2000.
Overview[]
Gon and Killua want to train and make money, so they go to the Heavens Arena. Gon is stronger now from training on the Zoldyck grounds, sending his opponents flying. Killua faces Zushi, another child, and senses a technique similar to Illumi's. Killua decides to question Zushi on the top floor to learn more.
Synopsis[]
Kurapika and Leorio's airship departs and Gon and Killua remain at the airport. Together, the two plan what to do next, with Killua insisting that Gon needs a lot more training before he can accomplish his goal of punching Hisoka in the face. The two boys also express that they are both running low on money, so Killua suggests a place he knows where they can both train and earn money and can get to by airship.
Elsewhere, Netero and Beans discuss the fate of the newly graduated Hunters. Netero says their greatest challenge is yet to come, and Beans asks if the new Hunters should be warned. Netero waves the idea off, saying it will be important for them to learn independently.
Killua and Gon arrive at Heavens Arena via airship, excited to participate in the fights and move up the floors, especially since they spent the last of their money on the tickets to get there. A lot of fighters fill the lobby of Heavens Arena, but Killua takes notice of a kid, Zushi, in the crowd whose Master, Wing, is signing him up to participate.
When Gon and Killua go to apply, Killua tells Gon to lie about their experience level on their application to help them get to the tower's higher floors faster. Gon and Killua later enter the stands and watch one of the fights finish up. Killua explains that he'd actually competed at Heavens Arena before, when his dad left him there when he was six years old with no money and told him he wasn't allowed to come home until he reached the 200th floor; it took Killua two years to accomplish this. Gon then seems worried about whether he'll be able to do this and even more worried when his number is called to go fight, but Killua assures him that he'll be fine.
Gon enters the ring with his opponent, a large man who towers over Gon, and his opponent immediately looks down on Gon for being just a kid. However, as soon as the match begins and his opponent runs at him, Gon holds out his hand and pushes the guy back hard enough that the man flies backward into the outer wall, defeated. The referee advances Gon to the 50th floor.
Killua easily knocks out his opponent as well, and the referee advances him to the 180th floor after seeing Killua's previous record in the database. Still, Killua decides to go only to the 50th floor to stay with Gon. In the ring next to Killua, Zushi defeats his opponent as well.
In the elevator, Gon and Killua amicably engage with Zushi in conversation. When they reach their floor, Zushi compliments the other two boys on their fighting and is shocked to hear that they don't follow any particular martial arts school and don't have a Master. Wing approaches them to congratulate Zushi on his win and give him his prize money for the fight, and Zushi introduces him to Gon and Killua.
Zushi goes with Killua and Gon while they collect their prize money, which is very little. In a locker room, while they await their next matches, Killua explains that last time he won over 200 million jenny by reaching the 190th floor, which he then spent entirely on snacks. The conversation about Killua's prowess and prize money draws the attention of many of the grown men in the locker room, who stare suspiciously at the boys.
From behind, the boys are approached by a group who try to intimidate and threaten them, but when Gon turns around, he immediately recognizes them as the Amori Brothers. The brothers quickly retreat, especially after Killua offers to take them on in a fight.
Over the intercom, it is announced that Killua and Zushi will fight each other in the next match. Zushi and Killua head off, with Killua saying bye to Gon and telling him to meet him on the 60th floor, confident he'll win against Zushi. In the ring, an announcer introduces Killua and Zushi to the audience and lets them vote on who they favor to win; the audience favors Zushi.
When the match begins, Killua walks toward Zushi, and Zushi moves to strike, but Killua hits him in the back with a single chop, and Zushi collapses to the floor. Killua assumes he has won and isn't sure why the announcer is explaining how many points he just earned, but then notices Zushi getting back up. Killua strikes Zushi again, assuming it'll be enough to knock him down, but Zushi manages to stay standing. Zushi then resorts to using a power that Killua cannot see but can sense, and Killua immediately retreats back. Before Zushi can attack; however, Wing calls Zushi off. Upstairs, while this is happening, Gon defeats the Amori Brothers in his match.
After both matches have concluded, with Gon and Killua both winning, Gon runs to Killua to ask him how things went, and Killua describes the strange power he felt coming off of Zushi in their match, saying he'd felt the same thing before from Illumi. Killua explains how he overheard Wing chastising Zushi afterward for using Ren during the match. When talking with Gon, Killua changes his mind about their goal at Heavens Arena, stating he has decided he wants to reach the top floor.
