Synopsis[]

A couple of Mafiosi were in a building spot and reported that the Phantom Troupe were riding in a hot air balloon heading toward the Gordeau Desert. Kurapika, riding in a car along with Basho and Squala, learns about the Phantom Troupe's location and destination. At that same time, high-ranking mafiosi, Bean, learned about the Phantom Troupe's whereabouts and ordered their hot air balloon to be pursued and shot down. Talking to a couple of colleagues, Bean forewarns that the thieves aren't ordinary and must be immediately dealt with to avoid future conflict. He also states that the Ten Dons have dispatched the Shadow Beasts.

Someplace in the Gordeau Desert, a large gathering of members of the Mafia Community surrounded the area where the Phantom Troupe's hot air balloon had crashed. As they threaten them to come down and face the consequences of their actions, the Phantom Troupe members watch them, and Nobunaga comments on how cliche they're acting. Shalnark concurs with Nobunaga, and Shizuku asks Feitan if she'll have to clean up after they're finished there. Feitan answers no, stating they've completed their work for the night. Uvogin volunteers himself to handle the mafia community as Shalnark then proposes they all play a game of cards to pass the time.

On the ground, Uvogin is confronted by a pistol-wielding mafioso who points his gun at Uvogin and demands to know if they're responsible for abducting the guests. Uvogin confirms it with a smirk, and the mafiosi then asks who their leader is, but Uvogin grins and gets shot in the face. However, Uvogin catches the fired bullet in his mouth and kills the mafiosi by breaking his neck with a single smack. Uvogin then proceeds to massacre the mafiosi as Nobunaga observes and comments on Uvogin's philosophy of being strong. Franklin, who played cards with Shalnark, Shizuku, and Machi, notes how it's like a gorilla vs ants. Soon, reinforcements arrive, which Franklin notes as more people are lining up to be slaughtered.

Kurapika's group then arrives, and Squala curses how the barricade of cars was blocking the way, and they'll need to help. However, Kurapika stops him and notes that something isn't right.

Uvogin laments that the Mafia Community members who were sent after him weren't enough to warm him up for the upcoming Shadow Beasts. Two snipers fire at him from afar, but Uvon was impervious to the bullets, and he then tosses two stones at the snipers, which kill them on impact. A bazooka-wielding mafiosi then threatens Uvogin with his weapon that he claims could decimate a tank. On the other hand, Uvogin raises his hand against it and notes how pitiful that the mafiosi compared him to a mere tank. The mafiosi fires off the bazooka and hits Uvogin, leading the mafia community members to believe Uvogin was dead on impact. However, as the smoke clears, Uvogin is revealed to have survived the impact and proceeds to deal with the remaining members.

Squala, with Basho, Melody, and Kurapika, watches the scene unfold by a telescope and Kurapika also observes it using binoculars. He claims that Uvogin stopped the bazooka strike with his hand and is likely a Enhancer Nen user with incredible strength. Basho uses Kurapika's binoculars and listens to Kurapika's commentary on Uvogin's strength. A terrified Squala proclaims there's no way they can capture Uvogin, and Basho concurs. Though Kurapika insists they continue their mission, but Squala argues against it, and at that moment, Melody hears the heartbeat of someone other than them.

Immediately, the Shadow Beast named Worm tunnels up from below, and Squala claims Worm was one of the Shadow Beasts. Worm asks what family they belong to, and Squala answers the Nostrade Family, who are part of the Ritz Family. After judging the Nostrade Family's Nen capability, he advises them to stay back and let him handle the situation. Just then, three more Shadow Beasts arrive, Porcupine, Rabid Dog, and Leech comment that Uvogin is similar to how they act and would better handle him.

As another the card game ends between Shalnark, Shizuku, Machi, and Franklin, Feitan alerts them that the Shadow Beasts have arrived, and three of them confront Uvogin. Upon seeing the three Shadow Beasts, Uvogin demands to know where the Underground Auction items are, but Rabid Dog asks where the guests and security are. Uvogin quickly answered that his group killed them and reasked where the auction items were. From behind, Worm tunnels up from underground and sucker punches Uvogin; however, he was astonished not only to see that his punch barely affected Uvogin, but also broke his hand. Uvogin retaliates by punching Worm in the face, and Worm counters by yanking Uvogin's arm underground with him and gives him two choices: die by him or his comrades.

Despite being disadvantaged, Uvogin confidently proclaims he's not on the ropes; they all are. Charging up his free hand, Uvogin punches the ground with his Nen Ability Big Bang Impact, creating a giant crater below him. Once the smoke clears up, Uvogin's Spider Tattoo could be seen. The sight of the tattoo caused Kurapika to lose his composure gradually.

Continuing their observation from their safe high distance, the Phantom Troupe members comment on how simple, yet devastating power behind Uvogin's Big Bang Impact. Nobunaga states that as simple as Uvogin's attack may be, its devastating power is an example of someone who's mastered his Nen capability to its maximum. However, Nobunaga walks back on that comment, citing it's Uvogin's dream to build up his Big Bang Impact to match the power of a nuclear warhead. Shalnark comments that Uvogin always says that and wonders if he's serious about that claim, which Nobunaga claims that Uvogin is. He goes on to state that Enhancers have enough confidence to pull it off.

Switching over to Uvogin, he calls out to the final three Shadow Beasts, demanding to know who's next. The Shadow Beasts note how cocky Uvogin was and powered up with their Nen; they charge at Uvogin. Amused by the Shadow Beast's wild nature, Uvogin punches Porcupine, who punctures and entraps Uvogin in his Manipulated Hair. Sequentially, Rabid Dog tears off a piece of Uvogin's left shoulder, and Shalnark offers to help, but Uvogin dismisses the proposal. Uvogin tried to shake Porcupine off of his arm; however, Porcupine claimed that a thousand needles were embedded into him and wouldn't be able to shake him off. Hence, Uvogin tries to use Porcupine against Leech, but Porcupine softens the hairs of his that came in contact with Leech.

While Uvogin continues trying to get rid of Porcupine, Rabid Dog bites off another piece of Uvogin, and moments later, he succumbs to the neurotoxins from Rabid Dog's fangs. Now paralyzed from the neck down, Leech takes advantage of Uvogin's predicament by injecting him with a special breed of leeches. Said leeches would burrow into his bladder, lay their eggs there, and the infected person would die of extreme pain when the eggs hatch. Instantly, Uvogin bites, chews, and swallows a piece of Leech's face off and laments his thought that ugly people tasted good. After swallowing, Uvogin claims that he doesn't need much to beat the remaining two Shadow Beasts.

Uvogin spits out a piece of Leech's skull at Rabid Dog, who tries to block it with his hand, but it pierces through it and kills him upon impact on his face. Turning his attention to Porcupine, Uvogin lets out a loud scream that kills Porcupine and releases him from his grip on him.

Stopping his observation on Uvogin, Kurapika tries to confront Uvogin, but was stopped by his comrades, and Squala tries to reason with him as he is on the phone with Dalzollene. Amid the back and forth between Squala and Kurapika, Melody notes the intense sounds of hatred originating from Kurapika's heart. So, to calm down everyone and alleviate their anxiety, Melody performs her Nen Ability, A Field in Spring. When finished, Melody suggests that they form a plan before they act. Although Kurapika's head was now calm and clear, he still insisted that he go forward and capture Uvogin.

On Uvogin's side, he's chastised by Franklin and Nobunaga for not warning them about his screaming. Uvogin gives a half-hearted apology and asks Shizuku to suck the poison and leeches out of his body. However, Shizuku claims she could only suck out the poison, not the leeches with Blinky because it can't suck up any living things. Shalnark goes down to investigate the situation with the Uvogin's leech problem, recognizes them as Spotted Leeches, and explains their history and how to pass the eggs safely.

Before Shizuku could suck out the poison in Uvogin's body, Kurapika used his Chain Jail to capture Uvogin and pull him to him. Unbeknownst to the group, Machi used one of her Nen Threads on Uvogin to track him.
