Invitation × List × Show Me Rock! (勧誘×リスト×最初はグー!, Kanyū × Risuto × Saisho wa Gū!) is the 75th episode of the original Hunter × Hunter anime and the 5th episode of the Greed Island OVA series. It was released on DVD on March 19th, 2003.

Overview[]

Gon and Killua are invited to join a player's alliance, but decline and go their own way. They join and win a "Rock, Paper, Scissors" competition to get the prize card.

Synopsis[]

Shalnark, Kortopi, and Shizuku arrive in Rubicuta, amazed by how real the town appears. The group wonders about Feitan and Phinks' whereabouts but decides to carry on with their own journey for the time being. The trio sets out to gather information.

Killua questions Nickes further about his invitation to join his group, suspicious of him. Nickes offers the boys information about using spell cards, particularly the one used on Killua by Latarza, if they join, and brings them to meet his group to hear more from them before they decide on anything. The group members at the meeting, aside from Nickes, consist only of Genthru and Assam. Biscuit, Puhat, and Abengane are also at the meeting, deciding whether or not to join. Killua and Nickes tell the group about the death of Jeet that just occurred, and Genthru immediately says it's the work of the "Bomber". Genthru explains to Gon and Killua that a spell card could not have caused Jeet's death because no spell cards in the game can kill or injure a person. He also willingly tells Killua that the spell cast on him by Latarza was likely Trace or Cling and that he may now be at a disadvantage in the game because of it.

Genthru also elaborates a bit further on player hunters, the type of players behind Jeet's death, and how they've determined there are at least four players in the game currently hunting others. He can give very specific details about the Bomber, the type of person they might be, and even the type of Nen they might use. Assam adds that more and more players are choosing to steal cards from other players, often by force, as opposed to finding them themselves or via trading. Nickes concludes by saying that although players cannot obtain cards from those they kill, players are now, more than ever before, choosing to kill other players just to obtain cards with low maximum amounts potentially, and urges everyone present to join them to win the game safely.

Puhat and Abengane question the group about their own methods of obtaining cards from other players, and Nickes admits that they do steal cards from others but only use spell cards of their own and not through violence. Genthru claims that all their group members working together have collected 67 of the 100 necessary cards so far. The group plans to collect in three months. Along with a 200 million reward each, the men also promise to remove any spells cast on the players who join them and let them use the items they have to exit the game.

Puhat and Abengane agree to join. When prompted, Gon declines and walks off, and Killua quickly declines as well, choosing to go with Gon. Biscuit spends some time thinking about her decision as Gon and Killua leave. Gon appears very quiet and angry as he and Killua walk through town. He continues to walk off on his own without saying anything to Killua. Biscuit follows behind them at a distance.

Kozufutoro

Kosofftro greets the new members

Puhat and Abengane, along with several other members of their new group, gather at the Shiso Tree. Jispa flies in to meet with the new members using Magnet Force. He then teleports the new players to bring them to Kosofftro, which is used as a teleport spot far from the group's main headquarters. As the group walks to the headquarters, Jispa explains the group's mission of collecting spell cards by buying packets, which can only be done in Masadora. The goal for the group is to eventually obtain Angel's Breath by trading in all forty spell cards. Although they currently have all forty, they want spares of each just in case, and the newcomers are tasked with getting a spare of the card Fortress. After arriving at the headquarters, the newcomers are handed a list of the 40 spell cards in the game and are expected to memorize them all within the hour. However, after the list and the task are explained to the group, Abengane immediately returns his papers, claiming he has already finished memorizing the list.

Biscuit under a tree

Biscuit follows Gon and Killua

While walking through a field at sunset, Gon stops and apologizes to Killua for his behavior with the group since not joining them means that Killua is stuck with the spell inflicted on him. Killua asks what Gon has been so angry about, and Gon explains that he had hoped to enjoy this game with others and was upset to see it being turned into a massacre by other players. Killua disagrees with Gon, much to Gon's shock. However, Killua elaborates by saying that he doesn't believe killing people is right, but that playing Greed Island in the ways that people are is only natural given the type of game it is and the types of people allowed to play. The two agree to focus on enjoying the game the best they can. Gon tells Killua how happy he is to have him with him and how fortunate he is to have ever met Killua, and Killua becomes flustered and embarrassed at Gon's display of feelings. Killua thinks to himself that he's also really glad to have met Gon, but doesn't say it out loud. Biscuit continues to tail them from a distance, remarking how sweet their friendship is and how she wants to destroy it.

Gon and Killua competition EP75 99 1

Gon VS. Killua in the Rock Paper Scissors tournament finals

Gon and Killua practice for the upcoming Rock Paper Scissors tournament in the town square. Killua loses to Gon again, and Gon shares a secret taught him by a fisherman on Whale Island about how to win. He tells Killua to always start with rock and play slower than his opponent because, with good eyes, he should be able to see the shape his opponent's hand starts to make. Killua accuses Gon of cheating, and Gon asks if that means Killua won't use his strategy, but Killua says he'll still use it anyway. At the tournament, Gon and Killua face off in the finale, and Killua uses his left hand at the last moment instead of his usual right to throw Gon off. Killua wins the tournament and receives Sword of Truth as his prize.
