Split Mountain (マフタツ()(やま)()()()()()()()(), Mafutatsuyama) was the second site of the 2nd Phase in the 287th Hunter Exam.[1]

Overview[]

The mountain is famous for its characteristic split in the middle that divides the mountain into two equal halves and for its strong ascensional currents inside the split. It's also the home to the Spider Eagles that build their nests between the cliffs on Split Mountain with their webs.[1]

Menchi holds the 2nd Phase redo of the 287th Hunter Exam here. The examinees' challenge is to dive into the area where the Spider Eagle nests are located. Next they're to retrieve an egg from their nest and climb back up to the top of the mountain and boil their Spider Eagle eggs. 42 of the examinees manage to accomplish this task and enjoy the delicious taste of their eggs.[1]

  • Mafutatsu is an unaspirated version of the Japanese word mapputatsu (真っ二つ), which means "in two halves".
  • "Mt. Split-in-Half" is its name in Crunchyroll's translation of the 2011 anime adaptation.[2]
