Overview[]

Carddass (カードダス) is a series of cards from Bandai's card vending machines, but have also been distributed in multiple other ways throughout the years.

The name Carddass comes from AMeDAS (Automated Meteorological Data Acquisition System), a system in Japan used for gathering weather data. The aim behind this naming is to make Carddass an information source for children. Carddass is a registered trademark of Bandai.

Carddass Hyper Battle[]

The Carddass Hyper Battle (カードダスハイパーバトル) series released its Hunter × Hunter collection in December of 1999. Hunter × Hunter was also one of only three anime to get a Carddass Hyper Battle collection, alongside One Piece and Soul Hunter.

The Hunter × Hunter Hyper Battle collection was comprised of six different series, as well as 23 promotional cards. Each box of the regular series cards contained 40 packets with five cards each. The 5 card packs could also be purchased individually for 100 yen. The promotional cards were released for purchase in special booster packs, or could be obtained with the purchase of a video game.

The cards in this series came in three different rarities: regular, holo, and secret holo. They were also sorted by five different categories of cards: Character (C) cards, Hunter (S) cards, Event (E) cards (only in series 1 and 2), Licence (H) cards (only in series 1), and Ability (N) cards (starting from series 3).

Part 1[]

Part 1, also known as Hunter Exam (ハンター試験編), was released December of 1999, and contained 29 different Character cards (C01 - C29), 7 Hunter cards (S01 - S07), 5 Event cards (E01 - E05), and 1 Licence card (H01). In terms of rarity, it contained 36 normal rarity cards, 6 holo cards, and 3 explanation-type sheets in the form of cards.

Part 2[]

Part 2, also known as Finished! × Passed? × Hunter Exam (終了!×合格?×ハンター試験編), was released in March of 2000, and contained 31 different Character cards (C30 - C60), 6 Hunter cards (S08 - S13), 5 Event cards (E06 - E10). In total, the collection consisted of 42 cards, with 36 normal cards, 6 holo cards, and 3 explanation-type sheets in the form of cards.

Part 3[]

Part 3, also known as Ten × Zetsu × Ren × Hatsu × Nen: Special Edition (纏×絶×練×発×念SPECIAL編), was released in July of 2000, with 35 Character cards (C61 - C95), 7 Hunter cards (S14 - S20), and 6 Ability cards (N01 - N06). In terms of rarity, there were 42 normal cards, 6 holo, and 4 explanation-type sheets in the form of cards.

Part 4[]

Part 4, also known as Auction? x Secret Maneuvers x Appearance of the Phantom Troupe!!! (競売?×暗躍×幻影旅団登場!!!編), was released in mid January of 2001. It contained 35 Character cards (C96 - C130), 7 Hunter cards (S21 - S27), and 6 Ability cards (N07 - N12). The collection was made up of 48 normal cards, 4 holo cards, 2 secret holo cards, as well as 4 explanation-type sheets in the form of cards.

Part 5, also known as Yorknew × Phantom Troupe × Requiem (ヨークシン×幻影旅団×鎮魂曲), was released in mid May of 2001. The promoted secret holo card in the pack was of Chrollo Lucilfer.

The collection was comprised of 43 cards, including 30 Character cards (C131 - C160), 7 Hunter cards (S28 - S34), and 6 Ability cards. There were 36 normal cards, 6 holo cards, 1 secret holo card, as well as 5 explanation-type sheets in the form of cards.

Part 6, also known as September 4th × G・I × Hatsu Training (9月4日×G・I×発修行), was released in late August of 2001.

The collection contained 29 Character cards (C161 - C189), 7 Hunter cards (S35 - S41), and 6 Ability cards (N19 - N24). In total, there were 42 cards, with 36 normal cards, 6 holo cards, and 3 explanation-type sheets in the form of cards.

Jump Festa 2000 Limited Card[]

A limited-time promotional Gon card (S-J1), part of the Hyper Battle series, was distributed at Jump Festa 2000.

The Jump Festa Edition 2001 Carddass Hyper Battle Pack (ジャンプフェスタ2001エディション HUNTER×HUNTER カードダスハイパーバトル パック) was sold at Jump Festa 2001 and contained 8 cards total, with 5 Character cards and 3 Special cards. It was the first installment in the Carddass EX Hyper Battle Jump Festa series.

The Jump Festa Edition 2002 Carddass Hyper Battle Limited Pack (ジャンプフェスタエディション HUNTER×HUNTER カードダスハイパーバトル パック) was sold at Jump Festa 2002 and contained 8 cards total, with 5 Character cards and 3 Special cards. It was the second installment in the Carddass EX Hyper Battle Jump Festa series.

Game Boy Hunter × Hunter: Hunter's Genealogy[]

The Game Boy Hunter × Hunter: Hunter's Genealogy (ゲームボーイハンター×ハンター~ハンターの系譜~特典) set of cards were released alongside the Game Boy Color game Hunter × Hunter: Hunter's Genealogy on June 15th, 2000.

The set included a total of 6 cards, with 5 Character (C) cards and only 1 Hunter (S) card which featured the game-only character Ogyu. All of the cards had gold foil lettering of the characters' names on them.

Carddass Masters[]

The Hunter × Hunter Carddass Masters (カードダス マスターズ) collection was released by Bandai in Japan from 2000 to 2001, and was one of the first Hunter × Hunter card collections to be made, alongside the Hyper Battle collection. The cards in this collection measured 64mm by 90mm, and featured images from the 1999 Hunter × Hunter anime.

This collection consisted of two main parts, with each booster box containing fifteen booster packs, and each booster pack containing ten cards. Each box also contained a binder sticker. A limited Premium edition was also released, and contained special edition cards that were required to complete the full set.

Part 1 of the Hunter × Hunter collection, also known as Gon × Rival × Hunter Exam Begins! (ゴン×ライバル×ハンター試験開始!), was released in 2000, and was comprised of 139 cards, with 135 normal cards and 4 special cards.

Premium Edition[]

The Premium edition was released in 2000, and was comprised of 20 cards, with 18 normal cards and 2 special cards; it was distributed in 2 booster packs containing 10 cards each (9 normal cards and 1 special), as well as a booster box containing 20 cards which originally retailed for 314 yen.

Tthe Blue Booster, called Gon × Kurapika × Leorio, contained the first of the special cards, featuring Kurapika and Gon. The Pink Booster, called Gon × Killua × Hisoka, contained the second of the special cards, featuring Gon and Killua.

Part 2[]

Part 2 was released in 2001, with 139 cards total, consisting of 135 normal cards, and 4 special cards.

Miracle Battle Carddass[]

The Miracle Battle Carddass (ミラクルバトルカードダス) collection began circulating at V Jump Card Festa 2009, but Hunter × Hunter did not join the collection until March of 2012, and overall was the fourth licence to join Miracle Battle after One Piece, Dragon Ball, and Toriko.

The cards in the collection measure 63mm by 88mm. The White box contained 160 cards, or 40 packs of 4 cards each, as well as an ad. The Booster box contained 20 boosters of 8 cards each. And lastly, the Starter box contained 40 cards, 10 Jump Power tokens, a play mat, a rulebook, and a member's card.

This collection contained more card rarity types than any of the previous, with six different rarities: Common (C); Uncommon (U); Rare (R); Super Rare (SR); Miracle rare (M); and Super Omega Rare (超Ω). Miracle cards would later become Boost (B) cards in the HHEX01 series. In the final series of the Hunter × Hunter collection, HHEX02, Super Rare cards became Hunter × Hunter Rare (HHR).

Initially, there were three different types of cards in the series: Character cards (vertical cards depicting characters from the series), Action cards (vertical cards with a black border that depicted certain character's abilities), and Event cards (horizontal cards that referenced an important moment from the story). The final series, HHEX02, introduced a new card type, Support cards, which were vertical cards that created a continuous effect.

Miracle Battle Carddass HUNTER × HUNTER: 4 Challengers Deck (ミラクルバトルカードダス HUNTER×HUNTER 「4人の挑戦者デッキ」), also called HHS01, was a pre-constructed deck released on March 24th, 2012. It was released alongside the first Hunter × Hunter part of the Miracle Battle collection, HH01, and celebrated the first year anniversary of the Hunter × Hunter anime remake.

The starter deck contained 40 cards total, with 16 new cards made up of 12 Common cards, 2 Rare cards, 1 Super Rare card, and 1 Super Omega Rare card. The deck originally retailed for 1,200 yen.

This series was named after the first arc of the 2011 anime adaptation.

It consisted of 72 cards, with 36 Common, 12 Uncommon, 8 Rare, 8 Super Rare, 4 Miracle Rare, and 4 Super Omega Rare. It could either be purchased as a Booster box with 20 booster packs and 8 cards each, single booster packs for 214 yen, or as a White box from vending machines, consisting of 40 packs of 4 cards each.

This series focused on the Zoldyck Family and Heavens Arena arcs of the 2011 anime adaptation.

Miracle Battle Carddass HUNTERxHUNTER: Phantom Troupe (ミラクルバトルカードダス HUNTERxHUNTER「幻影旅団」), also known as HH03, was released October 26th, 2012. The series included a total of 72 cards, with 36 Common, 12 Uncommon, 8 Rare, 8 Super Rare, 4 Miracle Rare, and 4 Super Omega Rare. The booster packs available at vending machines contained 4 cards and could be purchased for 100 yen; the other booster packs available for purchase elsewhere contained 8 cards each and could be purchased for 210 yen.

The series focused on the York New arc of the 2011 anime adaptation, particilarly the first half of the arc, and prominently featured characters from the Phantom Troupe. One promotional card (PHH) of Chrollo was released for the series.

Miracle Battle Carddass HUNTER x HUNTER "Phantom Booster" (ミラクルバトルカードダス HUNTER×HUNTER「ファントムブースター」), also known as HHEX01, was released February 22nd, 2013. It consisted of 49 cards total, with 22 Common, 12 Uncommon, 6 Rare, 3 Super Rare, 3 Super Omega Rare, and 3 Booster. It could either be purchased as a Booster box, or in single booster packs.

The series was released shortly after the release of the film Hunter × Hunter: Phantom Rouge, and commemorated the release of the film by including character cards of notable film characters like Omokage. It also focused on the latter half of the York New arc of the 2011 anime adaptation, and even featured a couple of characters from the Greed Island arc.

Miracle Battle Carddass HUNTER x HUNTER "THE LAST MISSION" (ミラクルバトルカードダス HUNTER×HUNTER 「The LAST MISSION」), also known as HHEX02, was released December 26th, 2013. It was an all kira set, with even the Common cards having a special holographic foil. It consisted of only 18 cards total, with 12 Common and 6 Hunter × Hunter Rare. The cards were originally sold in packs of 3 cards for 200 yen per pack.

The series was released in conjunction with the release of the film Hunter × Hunter: The Last Mission, and included notable characters from the film like Jed. It also included characters from the Chimera Ant arc of the 2011 anime adaptation.

HUNTER x HUNTER Carddass Premium Edition (HUNTER×HUNTERカードダスプレミアムエディション) was originally sold at Jump Festa 2019. The series came in a folder that contained 6 Premium cards in total. The cards themselves measured 59mm by 86 mm.
