Luis (ルイス, Ruisu) is an anime-only character in the 1999 anime adaptation, and a pro-Hunter who was one of the judges of the 287th Hunter Exam.[1]

Appearance[]

Luis has neatly combed brown hair, long thin eyebrows, and a defined jaw. He wears a black suit and black sunglasses.[1]

Personality[]

Luis kept a calm and professional demeanor for the most part,[1][2] but an attack by Illumi made him notably distressed.[3]

Background[]

At one point in his life, he took the Hunter Exam. He passed and eventually became an examiner for the exam itself.[1]

Luis acts as one of the examiners for the Final Phase of the 287th Hunter Exam, more specifically, the referee in Hisoka vs. Kurapika's match,[1] Hisoka vs. Bodoro's match, and Killua vs. Gittarackur's match.[2]

During the last fight mentioned, when Gittarackur (who had already revealed himself to be Illumi) learns that Killua would like to be friends with Gon and starts exiting the room to kill him, Luis tries to stop Illumi from leaving the unfinished match. Illumi throws his needles at Luis' head; as a consequence. He begins to feel great pain, and his face begins to deform, causing him to reveal where Gon is. Illumi coldly informs Luis that he will not die, his face will change form a little, but if he does not remove the pins in time, it might never return to normal; finally, Luis falls to the ground.[3]

Luis has all the benefits granted by his status as a Hunter.

Nen[]

As a Hunter, Luis can utilize Nen. Due to having been an examiner for the Hunter Exam, he is likely proficient in using Nen, although he never displays this.
